The Discovery flow on the Boston Made App homepage is a guided navigation tool. It asks you a series of questions about what you are looking for and uses your answers to recommend the most relevant brands and destinations within the ecosystem.
There are nine primary paths: Explore Boston Made, Find a Brand, Get the News, Shop the Ecosystem, Join the Community, Work with Us, Invest or Partner, Get Help, and Discover Something New. Each path leads to two to four follow-up questions that narrow down your specific interest.
The results are not exhaustive — they are curated. The flow is designed to surface three to six relevant destinations rather than listing everything. If you want a complete view of the ecosystem, the Directory is the better tool. The Discovery flow is for when you have a general sense of what you are looking for but want guidance on where to go.
You can save results to your Favorites. If you are signed in, favorites sync to your account. If you are not signed in, they are stored in your browser's local storage. Either way, you can come back to them without repeating the flow.
The Skip option lets you bypass the flow entirely and go straight to the Directory. The Start Over option resets the flow from the beginning. The Back button returns you to the previous question without losing your earlier answers.
The flow is not a personality quiz and it does not make inferences about you beyond what you explicitly tell it. Your answers are used only to generate recommendations in that session. They are not stored or used to build a profile.
The Discovery flow is updated as the ecosystem evolves. New brands added to the portfolio are incorporated into the relevant paths, and the follow-up questions may be refined over time to better reflect the actual range of interests visitors bring to the App. If you have used the flow before and notice it has changed, that reflects ongoing development rather than an error.
The Discovery flow is also useful as a periodic check-in rather than a one-time exercise. As the ecosystem grows and new brands are added, the results for a given set of preferences may change. Running the flow again after a few months — or after a significant change in your interests — can surface brands or content that was not available or relevant on your first visit. The flow is designed to be quick enough that revisiting it is not a significant time investment.
